Literature Text

I remember those hot summer days
those intense sunny rays
temperatures raising to 101 degrees
still no sign of that wanted chilling breeze

We're riding 70 down the highway
Windows down, wind blowing through your car
Your sunglasses glinting with a reflection of light
A smile on both of our lips

My hand is gripped in yours
Music blaring through your speakers
both of our fingers tapping to the rhythm
The rhythm of summer

Red light
You lift my hand up to your lips.
My blushing face
I look away from your mischievous eyes
and live within the moment.

We're home
I jump into chill water.
The pool is occupied with making memories
floating around at every corner.
Laughter and chlorine fills the air
seeping itself into our brains to remember for years to come

Summer storm approaching
wind begins to pick up,
rustling the leaves in a peculiar way.
Thunder slightly rolls in the distance
Picking up on the rhythm of summer.

Crickets chirp obnoxiously
as the sun begins to cast long shadows across the ground
the nights long arms encircle the ground and sky
cooling the air from a hot summer's day.
And still, you're here with me.

I gaze at the last glimmer of light on your car
reflecting within my eyes
making another memory like chalk on a board
it marks another day spent well with you

The days seem to go by so fast
every second of our memories build up to a minuet
which guides us closer and closer to the time where you will have to depart.
But still, it doesn't slow us down
from making our ballad of summer.

Rain drops dripping on my windowsill
Leaves rustling in the wind
Thunder rolling distantly
and yet, you're here again.

These memories cease to falter
these voices know their beat
they cease to end their rhythm
they refuse to admit defeat

We close the day with a good night’s embrace
within the darkness beside your car
and still the rhythm has not delayed
because it knows you won't go far.
Summer brings good memories
